Introductory Paragraph

Dorothy Allison said, "Class, race, sexuality, gender and all other categories by which we categorize and dismiss each other need to be excavated from the inside." This quote means that not everything human beings do should depend on if you're a man or woman, but if you actually have the ability and effort to do it. People should agree with this quote because now a days, women strive to succeed in just as many things men can do. This can clearly be seen in The Selection because the main character the main character America competes in a competition for a prince's hand in marriage not because she wants to fall in love, but she doesn't want her father being the other one providing for their family. Examples of this in the book is when she experiences harsh situations with the other people of royalty, having to set her actual relationship at home aside with Aspen, and realizing she made it thus far in the competition for her family.

A Night Turned Wrong

It was a warm summer night in the year of 2014. It was getting late at Piedmont Park. Keisha and Cindy went on a late night jog since they had to work overtime at Johnny Rockets. It was as dark as an empty room with only a couple of city lights on. They went through a hidden trail in the middle of the trees where no one could find them. As they were walking, catching their breath, Cindy spotted two huge eyes on the branch of a tall tree. They frightened her and she screamed loudly. It startled Keisha and she saw that the huge, creepy eyes belonged to an owl who was as white as snow. Once they got themselves together, Keisha forgot to remind her boyfriend, Jamel, that she was going for a run with Cindy after work. She checked her phone, which was on silent, and had seven missed calls and received more than ten crazy and worrisome texts. She could tell that Jamel was as scared as a child who couldn't find his mother and was worried sick about her. Cindy and Keisha made their way to their cars once they finished the trail. Cindy was more cautious of her surroundings and Keisha got an ear full from Jamel once she got home.
